What can drone imagery show on a silo?
Side views can establish the asset and its visible external surfaces. Elevated views can show the silo tops, access covers and walkways where the flight position and site conditions allow.
This guide uses two silo clips to explain coverage choices. An overview helps locate features, but targeted photographs may be needed to record a particular area in useful detail.
- Side views: establish the asset and visible external surfaces.
- Elevated views: show accessible features on the tops of the silos and surrounding walkways.
- Targeted detail: specify the components or areas that need closer imagery.
- Labelled records: identify each asset and location so the maintenance team can interpret the image set.
Is an overview video enough for an inspection?
Not always. A moving overview can show the arrangement of an asset while providing too little detail to answer a specific maintenance question. Explain what you need to see and request suitable photographs or targeted video in the agreed brief.
What can these images not establish?
External visual footage does not establish internal condition, wall thickness or structural safety. Those questions require appropriate specialist assessment and, where necessary, physical testing.
What should you include in an industrial inspection brief?
Provide the site location, asset identifiers, priority areas, site restrictions and required deliverables. Explain who will use the images and whether you need an overview, detail photographs, annotated images or an organised evidence set.
Suitable pilot capability, equipment and the capture plan are assessed for the assignment. Complex industrial requirements are reviewed before a price is confirmed.
